Gotta love annual reviews

I started a job in 2020. It was a new field, but I’ve worked with customers in various settings before, so I just had to learn how to be an administrative assistant in this industry. A month after I started we went to a hybrid schedule with one person in the office at a time. So my training was sort of interrupted. Most of the year I was told that I was doing a great job! That I caught on very quickly! Then all of a sudden close to the annual review time in October 2021 they started finding a little issues with my performance.

When my review came around, I got a does not meet. In my 30 years of working, I have never gotten a does not meet in any of my reviews.

All of the issues that they put on my review? Were one off issues that I corrected as soon as I was trained properly. So I was told that I would get a follow up review, to see if my performance improved, three months later. They told me that I did improve, but I never got a raise. I have been looking for another job since because of the toxicity and not knowing if I’m going to get Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde with the management team unfortunately.

I had a couple of friends who are managers look at my review. They commented that they have never seen a review written the way it was. Usually you get good and bad in a review, but mine was all negative. And when I mentioned that part to the manager in a review meeting, she said “well if you need to hear something good, you get all the unimportant things I ask you to do done quickly.” WTF?
