Gang, on a scale of 'not bad' to “We're like a family here 🙂” how toxic/sketchy is this interview moment?
Interviewer, let's call them Boss: We are looking to fill in for this person. There is no animosity between us but we feel that this person is more of an office person and not an activities person. (Activities Assistant is the role I applied for.)
Me: Oh so you found them another role within the company or they are transitioning to an office job? That's really great to hear!
Boss: …. No. They aren't staying with the company. Let's just say that they are, uh, leaving here to go work at home. Do you get what I mean?
Me: Ah (passive) ((internally: EW))
They called me 15 minutes after the interview to offer me the position which thankfully I have options. Another place I interviewed with has made an offer with a starting rate of $21.11. They asked where else I had offers from and when I told them the place and the rate off the bat they admitted that they doubted they could match that wage but said they would contact some other people to see what they could do.
Highly doubt that I will be getting a call back from them or an official offer letter BUT if they do call back I intend to ask some other follow-up questions. such as:
'So you said X comment during our interview. Does that mean you want to hire me to fire them? Am I understanding this correctly?
Why do you think that is a good idea to mention I am replacing someone you intend on firing?
Is this the normal management style I can expect should I choose to be employed with your company?'
Is this person aware that you don't believe they are performing to your expectation? Has there been any mediation? '
Any other questions y'all think I should ask is more than welcome and I sincerely hope that this current person working is able to find a job before they replace them.
Be on guard y'all and if nothing else, monitor your current employers hiring pages to see if you might be sold out too.
