Been working with a large machining company for a few months now and have been slowly but surely getting the older generation to actually look at the situation they are in. They are paid only a few dollars more than me even with 30+years experience each. They are tired and angry but old routines are keeping them from actually doing anything. The company took away full departments, most benefits they used to offer (family picnics, bowling leagues, Christmas parties, profit sharing, etc…).
They complain daily about how things are terrible and how the company is going in the shithole. I asked why they are still putting up with these conditions. The answer: Well they might fire me if I don't do what they want. I finally got some to stop caring. One can live off of his retirement for the rest of his life if he leaves at any point in time. Slowly but surely I'm getting them to think about how the company they work for doesn't care if they live or die so why try. I think I got into them today by telling them about my signing bonus. This got them riled up and asking why I should get a bonus when they didn't. I let them know to ask the boss not me as he was the one who gave it to me.
Just hoping that what I'm doing will finally get some guys here to ask the important questions.
It's hard work but honest work.
Have a wonderful day.
