Has anyone else been hearing this from management?

So I was offered a management role at another company and this morning I gave my boss (COO) my notice. They said they were sad to see me go and that “I was just telling Mike in accounting that if we didn't start compensating you better you were going to leave for another job.” First off “Mike in accounting” doesn't have shit to do with my comp plan or adjusting it, and if you felt so strongly about it why didn't you take your concerns to the CEO? You know the person that can make calls like that? Anyway, I've started to notice a pattern with leadership. When I've resigned from my last few roles I have a conversation just like this one and now I'm convinced that it's apart of some upper management playbook that I've just never read. Am I crazy? What is up with this…
