Have a pretty cushy job, company wants me to come back to the office.

I pretty much work remotely for now. I go out to job sites, measure, and submit my findings for fabrication. I get paid a salary plus mileage to do this. Today I get a phone call from the owner. He says he needs me to run the programming department. It’s something I did used to do at my old job, but I came to this job with the idea after almost a year that I don’t want to manage anymore. It’s been nice being home to get my kids on and off the bus daily. Now he wants me to come work 7-3 and no mileage. It’s about 55 miles a day total to drive to work and back home. On a good day, I do 80-90 miles driving. They want to take away my mileage. They say the wear and tear on my car won’t be as bad bc…

It’s been nice being home to get my kids on and off the bus daily. Now he wants me to come work 7-3 and no mileage. It’s about 55 miles a day total to drive to work and back home. On a good day, I do 80-90 miles driving.

They want to take away my mileage. They say the wear and tear on my car won’t be as bad bc I’m not in the field. I told them the above and named a salary $15K more than what I’m making now.

I don’t think I’m being too unreasonable. Taxes and insurance are a lot, and putting as many miles on my car as I almost do now won’t relieve the wear and tear.

If I don’t get my asking price, I’m going to have to say I can’t do it. I’d be giving up too much for nothing in return. Idk about you guys, but that extra $200+ on my check really helps out.
