Have you worked for someone like this:

A few office jobs ago, it snowed about a foot and since I didn’t hear from my company I made sure to wake up an hour or two early anticipating a much longer commute so I could still get there on time. My work day started at 9:30 and at 10:00 am received an email saying, “due to inclement weather, and the hazard it will cause traveling to the office, please stay home today.” 30 minutes after my expected start time. So I stayed until about 1 pm and then went home. The commute home was about an hour longer than usual (maybe 2 hours total). The next day I spoke to my manager who had taken the previous day off and told him what happened: came in early, received an email not to come in, worked a few hours in the office and left a few hours later and…

The next day I spoke to my manager who had taken the previous day off and told him what happened: came in early, received an email not to come in, worked a few hours in the office and left a few hours later and battled a very long commute due to the weather. In response he reprimanded me for not working a full day when the office was officially closed.
