Help someone stuck on ice at work, got in trouble for helping, am I in the wrong?

So I work at a travel stop for semi’s “won’t say the company”, and I saw a semi on our property stuck because the ground wasn’t salted properly “again on our property”. I went out and helped him get his truck out of the ice. Proceed to go back to work inside and get talked to the manager to never help a customer like that again, to let them deal with it. I was fuming after hearing that. Was I in the wrong and should have left him so I wouldn’t get in trouble at work?
