I've decided to get a job at a company nearby.
There were 3 positions:
-Operating a fairly specific machine, which paid the most
-Operating other machines, which paid less but still well
-General laborer, which paid the least
I applied to operate the specific machine because it paid the most and because I had experience with it from a previous job. The employer said they hired a more experienced person to fill that role, but because I did have experience with that machine, the hiring manager said I would be receiving more pay.
Unfortunately, when I received my paperwork, I found I was put in the lowest paid position with no additional pay. I start in December.
I do need an income at the moment, but I'm wondering how to deal with this sudden shuttling me to the lowest paid position. Should I simply refuse to operate the specific machine that the other more experienced person can operate? If the manager asks me to operate it, how should I respond?
