So I work as a line cook. And I just got quite sick (just a standard virus). And what I find funny is that I work in one of the fields. That people should be most conscientious about being healthy when they go to work. We literally handle the food that people put in their mouths. Here's the issue in my entire decade-long career in hospitality I've never worked for a company that gave you paid time off. Considering over 50% of Canadians live paycheck to paycheck taking time off to recover at your own expense isn't really an option. And even if you're lucky enough to have savings to fall back on no one likes draining their bank account just because they got sick. So I'm going to work today even though I'm still not healthy. Because I've already lost probably close to $300.
