I just got hired for a great paying position but my benefits won't kick in for I believe 2 months. My orientation is 05/30. I have flight, rental car, and event tickets to an event from 07/20 to 07/24. I can go back to work the night of the 24th. I would have to miss the 20th, 21st, and 23rd. That is 3 days. This is a union job and I believe I get 40 hours off after those 2 months but they may go by seniority for that as well. Nonetheless I think I miss it by a week. They haven't really given me the entire information yet, I'll find out on my new hire date. How should I go about this? I put a lot of money and planning into this vacation, and I really want to fight to still go to it. What could I say or what should I do?
It's a warehouse position on a line for context. I'm far from the only one in my position.
