I'm a senior in high school working at a fast food place. The policy there is to submit off requests two weeks on advance. I did just that.
Tomorrow is a senior's awards night, and a big event for me and others. So, i requested it off… Schedule for this week was just posted, and what do you know? I'm working four to eight. I called the store about a minute later and one of the managers picked up.
Me: Hey, this is (Name). I'm unable to work tomorrow because it's a school event. It's awards night for seniors, and I got invited.
Manager: … So are you invited or part of it? Because if you just got invited, what's the point in going?
Me: Uh, no, I got invited BECAUSE I'm getting something. I requested off on paper two weeks ago.
Manager: (shuffling as she goes to office to look in the pile.) It's not there.
Me: It should be.
Manager: Look, just find someone to cover your shift, or you'll have to come in.
Me: It's a school event, though.
Manager: I'm sorry. Find someone to cover you. Bye.
…
I'm not showing up regardless, but I really don't want to get fired atm. I'd rather leave on a good note, but I'm irritated. And how convenient they lost my papers!
