How did we fall for this?

For most people, their country has some form of “Bill of Rights”, and yet (afaik) none of these include the right to shelter, food or clean water. Which when you think about it are the three things every human needs Take it back to cavemen. They need food. They need shelter. They need water. So they don't give us the rights to the things we actually need to survive, why? So that they can leverage those things against us. If we had the right to shelter/food/water we wouldn't feel as compelled to work. Nobody chooses to work. The “choice” is more of an ultimatum. Either you work or you go hungry/starve and end up homeless. Sure, they pay you but only so you can fuel their economy by buying back the things you've just helped to produce or fellow working class around the world (and often literal child slaves) have…

Which when you think about it are the three things every human needs

Take it back to cavemen.

Sure, they pay you but only so you can fuel their economy by buying back the things you've just helped to produce or fellow working class around the world (and often literal child slaves) have helped to make.

And so you can exchange that paper and scrap metal for food and shelter.

Why did we go along with this? Why do we persist to go along with this?

My first day back at work today after 3 months of being too ill to work. And I'm looking around at my colleagues just going along with this facade and I just can't help but wonder where it all went long.

Are we placated by the distractions they make for us? I love movies and TV. Music. Video games. Etc even hobbies like cycling or whatever. Even smart phones and social media (ironic given I'm typing this on reddit I know) but is it really all just a way to keep us too distracted and comfortable to fight for real change? The hours we work and the 5 day work week being the norm is a clear attempt to exhaust us is it not?

The only thing “free” about so-called free time is that it doesn’t cost the boss anything. Free time is mostly devoted to getting ready for work, going to work, returning from work, and recovering from work.

Free time is a euphemism for the peculiar way labor as a factor of production not only transports itself at its own expense to and from the workplace but assumes primary responsibility for its own maintenance and repair. Coal and steel don’t do that. Lathes and typewriters don’t do that. But workers do.

I'm so exhausted by the facade that everyone plays along with. I feel completely out of place within society.

I spoke to my psychiatrist once about depression. They said I should look for a different job. I tried to explain to them that needing a job and having to contribute to this bullshit pretence is the reason for my depression. That no matter what job I'm doing, the fact I'm doing a job is the issue.

We sell our bodies. How many people do you know who have bad backs or strange pains due to working so much? How many people do you see working through illness, fatigue and pain (physical or mental). We give them our time. It's precious. We give them our health. Our bodies. Our labour.

And they give us paper and scrap metal to exchange for food we need to survive and shelter we need for safety.

Its fucking insanity. I feel like most people are walking around oblivious to their own reality. Like they're sleepwalking and I'm scared but also desperate to wake them up.
