Whenever I talk to my parents about anything regarding the economy society or politics their arguments always end in saying something like “well not everywhere in the world people get to vote” or “half the world doesn't even let women vote”
Why are they so stuck on this point and why do they say it like it's a conversation ender. I don't think they are meaning to say it this way but the way they put it young people take it as them saying well it's not as bad as x so suck it up bcz it's better than y.
What kinds backwards ass mentslity is that well its not as bad as x so don't complain. I think this just corks from their time politically where it was enough to just compare our system to the middle east and say hey look its not as bad as that.
Nowadays young people see the good parts of our society but we also see the very negative functions our economic policy and society serves.
Instead of listening to these things my folks just say oh I don't want to talk politics.
But no matter what I say even real complaints from videos like the one below they always reply back with some sort of guilt trip about how good we have it.
SO just because we have it better than other places we're not allowed to strive to make things better.
