Just got “fired” from my medtech/biotech job because of “downsizing.” It was my first job after college and I worked there for about 7 months. It's a huge company similar to Pfizer so it's really unexpected. And I always thought STEM research jobs are more secure. That's what I was always told. I was going to get an apartment, etc (although very expensive area). Thank God I didn't have a mortgage to pay or any other expenses.
Now I'm scared. If I can get fired from a huge company like that, then what's the guarantee that I won't get fired from future positions? How can I consider buying a house if I don't have that mental security of remaining in the job? It's really a psychological hit.
