How do you answer the “Where do you work?/What do you do for a living?” question?

When someone asks you “where do you work?” they are most-likely doing so as a way to get to know more about you. The problem is, what I do for a job is not a good way to get to know me. It is a boring office sales job. It does not reflect my personality or taste in any way. So how do you answer this question when you hate your job? What can I say that technically answers the question but is more indicative of who I actually am?
