I have decided this is my new 2-5 year plan. and I hope to retire overseas.
YES, I recognize that it's not easy to just up and leave, especially if you have children, spouses, family, commitments, pets, etc. It's not for the faint of heart.
However, for those that are thinking of it: I am curious to know if your future plans involve not staying in the capitalist hellscape that is the USA. I don't see this country getting any better and I fully believe that 2024 will be our speedrun into full-on fascism. Blue states may be able to buffer their citizens a bit better than those in red states but it will eventually come for us all.
I am looking into digital nomad visas, teaching English overseas in a low-cost-of-living country, or even doing a marriage if I get desperate.
In what ways are you looking into escaping the US? I have subbed to all the Expat/Escape subreddits on this site which have been very helpful.
I just have zero hope for the future. Workers are tired and I know the 1% class would rather go scorched earth than give up even 1% of their opulence to help this country and its people.
I don't even mind lowering my standard of living if it means that I can be more relaxed and happy on a daily basis.
