How should I negotiate a pay rise and salary increase?

Hi Reddit! After a lot of depressing searching for work and getting nothing back, I finally landed a pretty cool job as a personal assistant. Hi Reddit!

After a lot of depressing searching for work and getting nothing back, I finally landed a pretty cool job as a personal assistant.

I’m enjoying it a lot but I’m being expected to do some pretty high pressure tasks and as it’s part-time, there is a lot of stress to get things done. Any overtime has to be pre-approved and I know my worth enough to not work unpaid, but it’s annoying and stressful.

I’m still in my probationary period but at the end of it my employer and I are going to discuss my salary and hours for the future. I currently work 25 hours a week, whereas I’d rather become full time by doing 30 or even 35. I also get a very small salary (£12/h) and would very much like to negotiate something higher.

I don’t have any relevant experience outside of this job, getting this was a lucky break in itself. I’m not as educated or skilled as some of the underpaid overworked people on here, but I think the work I do does justify more reasonable pay.
