I have a coworker who will 100% of the time piggyback on my work to get credit. For example last week I had a senior employee ask me if I needed help and was I okay (with the volume of work) , the coworker in question who we’ll call A was on the phone and shouldn’t have heard any of this if they were paying attention to the person they were speaking to (unless eavesdropping) I said I was fine that I had a rough week a few weeks ago as I had a lot of work but I said I got through it (the week was a nightmare I worked my ass off) , A at this point was off the phone and piped up ‘yes we got through it’. I can categorically confirm they did not lift a finger for any of my work, in fact they bitched about me to another colleague about the fact I couldn’t help them with their stuff. This is consistent and I have enough. Any advice on how to approach this ? I would’ve loved to go ‘and what did you do’ but I didn’t want to look immature in front of the other staff member.
If it makes any difference, the staff member who was checking on me is in a field where I’m hoping to go back and study. They’ve been very kind to me and I’m hoping when I go back they’ll be able to give me some advice/ help/network options so I’m trying to show my ability as much as I can and show I’m competent and reliable as they are EXTREMELY well respected in their field. But at the moment because of the other coworker it sounds like I am needing help. I’m very frustrated.
I’ve been in my role for 6 months and this has been happening since day one. Anything where I would not sign off my name (we have a department email) they would claim as being them. I’ve never seen anything like this and I worked in a team of 200.
