How to return work uniform and avoid awkwardness?

There was no sense of professionalism and everyone was just way too overly social. I tried dealing with it and focusing on my work as much as possible but I finally just couldn't deal w it anymore. Now I have to return my uniform etc and I have to do so in person. I'd like to avoid any awkwardness including questions as to why I chose to leave. I did tell HR it was because I needed to care for my mental health after the loss of a relative but beyond that I assume everyone is prob pissed because since the company is so poorly staffed in case someone is sick or quits, they all have to pitch in and work the absence hours. Any advice?
