This actually went out in a newsletter. Seeing this sentiment expressed isn't new, it's been out there for months now, but a bit galling to see it come from HR.
“Nearly half of HR employees said their organization has struggled to motivate employees to work beyond the required scope of their jobs during the past six months, according to a survey late last year by the Society for Human Resource Management. And in a recent poll by the software firm Qualtrics, 36% of workers and managers said their career ambitions had waned over the past three years, compared with 22% who said the opposite.”
Imagine that, people working to contract. You aren't offering to pay me more than what you agreed to so why are you wanting me to work more than I agreed to?
There's plenty of wiggle room if your employer is being nice and offering flex time and there's reciprocity but if they start getting shirty and demanding you adhere to the letter of the contract when it favors them, they have no right to get shirty when you adhere to the letter of the contract that favors you.
