HR tried to short me my raise while on maternity leave

TLDR company didn’t give me my raise while on maternity leave. I work in the healthcare industry. By American standards, the health system I work for has a nice parental leave package. Every year we receive our “bonuses” in the form of a 1% raise on our paychecks. This is followed by yearly merit raises to account for inflation.

When I returned to work, raises had just been handed out. There was some discontent on the fairness of pay. Some received upwards of 8% raises while others only received 2%.

When I reviewed my pays-lips I had not received any raise other than the 1% bonus from the first of the year. I had been gone on maternity leave since November and had just returned in March (a day early because my boss struggles with her boss duties). I did my quartet self check in and waited. Several pay cycles came and went when I finally brought up the raise to my boss. She said that I wasn’t on her list of people due a raise but she would look into it on my behalf.

2 weeks later she called me to her office and said hr got back to her. I got “lost in the shuffle” but I would be receiving my 2.9% merit raise on the next check along with all back paid owed since mid February. Someone along the line tried to skip my raise thinking I wouldn’t notice while on maternity leave.
