So I teach High School Social Studies in a very impoverished mid-sized midwest city. I'm 45, and I've been teaching since I was 30. I worked many a crap job in my teens and twenties, and that drove me back into getting my degree and a job in education. Most of the time I like my job, this is not a rant post.
I've been out of the job seeking crowd for 15 years (thank fucking god, I always hated the job applying/interviewing process), but as a result I lack relevant advice to give to my students as they enter the work force.
What practical advice would those of you who are on the front lines offer to a high schooler regarding today's work options?
