I used to work at a major Canadian corporation. I gave my life for that place. Countless hours of unpaid overtime, countless outside work mandatory activities, and countless hours spent having a community presence just to get an acceptable rating just to keep my job. It was worth it. I was getting a pension, good benefits, I planned on being a lifer.
Then I hit my head at work.
Nearly 3 years later, I still have double vision, headaches, depression, anxiety, crippling nausea and fatigue.
They never made an accommodation for me to get back to work, after years of begging.
They effectively discriminated against me because I have a brain injury.
I am in debt fighting for a severance that they promised then took away. Now if I take the severance they admit no wrong and I can never say anything about it again. They get away with no liability.
No wrongdoing after they refused to let a female, disabled, person of color back to work.
They are bullies. I want to take them to court for discrimination, but I don’t have the money or capacity. I have already lost myself in a body that does not cooperate, now it seems likely that I will lose my home and everything else.
There is no point, you can do everything right, and corporations will not care. You are a number not a human. I don’t even qualify for long term disability as they changed the policy after I was already injured so that you must be completely disabled from doing any job to qualify.
I give up….. they win. I have no interest in existing anymore as I am crushed, while they post billlions in profits.
My advice is…. Don’t give your life away for a ‘safe’ job. You don’t matter, only profits do.
Tldr: got hurt on the job, gets screwed over, left with brain injury and no future or hope.
