I applied for this position in June, was kept on the hook until this morning by a hiring manager who point blank told me she wanted to keep me in the running because of my background

So I’ve spent the last three years of my life working in social services in the most toxic workplace I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Back in June, I applied for this administrative assistant position within an HR department for a company that seemed like an exciting job. In July I got an email asking to set up a phone screener interview, which I happily accepted. During the screener, I was informed that the interview process was going to be longer, with 4 steps and a hiring manager who was out on maternity leave at the time. I said I understand, and I can be flexible with whatever I needed to do. Round two was an essay, which I knew I’d pass through easily because I’ve always been good at writing, and I did.
Round three was going to be a virtual interview with the hiring team.
However, round three never came, and the hiring manager emailed me personally asking if we could talk over what was going on. We did and she explained that they’d come to the decision that they needed to repost the job listing because the role would be much more on the HR side than the admin one. However, she too had shifted from social services to HR, so she wanted to hold onto my info and keep me in the running because she saw potential in me.
Since then, I saw the listing on ZipRecruiter of all places and figured I should check back in and make sure we’re all on the same page. The email I screenshot and posted above is what I woke up to.
I wasted four months of my life on this because I truly thought there was potential there. I’m beyond livid.
