I denied a PTO request that a team member submitted

Because he wanted use it to take his kid to the doctor. When I denied the request he called me in a semi-panic. I had to explain to him “that’s now how I do things.” I went on to further tell him not to worry about an official request and just go. Put up an OOO automatic reply and check the emails when you get back. I’m a millennial, I’ve been in a leadership position for well over a decade. The fuck am I about to make a young dad use well earned PTO to take his kid to the doctor. Take him, grab ice cream on the way home, and maybe even take a detour to the park. While I do my best, and definitely far from perfect, I swear I try. The idea that we’re all just cogs in the machine of corporate servitude must end.
