A manager at Cisco contacted me and said they were looking for a program manager. I explained that I know their products well, but I’m lacking in program management skills. He explained that they thought it would be better to get someone with product knowledge and teach them program manager skills. So I went ahead and interviewed. Finally, the manager gets back to me the following week and tells me that I don’t have enough program management skills. Yes. That’s why I didn’t apply for the job!
