I don’t think it’s possible to succeed under the new boss

He started only a few months ago but his expectations already exceed the amount of time we have in the day to satisfy them. Others in my work group have told him he’s requiring too much and other responsibilities are starting to suffer but you can practically see the words going in one ear and out the other. He uses an underling to hand down these new work decrees. This person is technically our direct supervisor, but he has no authority, is never present (works from home a lot) and is totally unresponsive by phone or email. Everyone knows who they actually answer to and this guy is not him. So do I try to talk to him about it or bail for something else?
