I recently left the most toxic work environment I have ever experienced. Blatant favoritism, micromanagers, labor/rights violations, etc. I’ve been on the job hunt since October 2022 with little to no luck as I’ve either been ghosted, ignored, or offered positions that are disgustingly lowballed for my experience/education. Flashback to January when I stumbled across a position at a well-respected college and decided to apply even though my CV didn’t exactly match the requirements. They reached out and offered me an interview and I ended up getting the position. WFH hybrid with benefits, PTO, sick days, wellness days, and professional development funding; AND it’s unionized! All this to say that there is hope out there. I probably applied to 100+ jobs during October-January before I finally landed a good one. It’s easy to get burnt out and give up, but you deserve better than a job that doesn’t give a rats ass about you. Don’t lose hope!
Also, I’ll happily be a “reference” for anyone who needs it. Because honestly the interview process is so convoluted nowadays and sometimes a good reference can make a difference.
Novel over.
TLDR; I left a shit job for an amazing position after searching for months and nearly giving up. There are better opportunities out there than the ones that abuse you and ruin your mental health. Don’t give up on yourself!
