I found a job doing what I love (Electrical work)
I was pretty decent at it. And was loving every minute of it to the point where I would come in on my days off, if it were needed.
I pushed myself really hard to learn how to to learn PLC and boolean.
I started working on tons of projects and got to do all kinds of really cool things with robots.
And then?
I asked for an accommodation because I have narcolepsy.
I often would fall asleep if somebody were talking to me or just fade away sometimes at my desk if I wasn't working on anything exciting. one of my co-workers told me that I should get a sleep study done. Maybe I had sleep apnea.
Nope, it was narcolepsy.
My doctors deemed it detrimental to my health for me to work a normal schedule.
Took a huge corporation 5 months to even start the process of trying to accommodate me. No meetings, nothing.
Finally, January came around and a meeting was set up!
I was so excited.
And then?
2 days later after the meeting, I get a denial letter.
Same day I get told that they are investigating me for time theft.
I got accused of stealing time. I asked them for evidence or a better understanding of what they were implying and they couldn't provide anything.
I asked if they looked at the cameras throughout the building or in front of the building and they told me that there would be no benefit in doing so. I even went as far to offer them my cell phone data, again they said no benefit to doing so.
They never bothered to look into my computer logs either.
I really really loved my job.
And now I'm unemployed all because I asked for an accommodation. Life sucks man.
