I genuinely don’t understand what mid level managers do all day

At the vast majority of the jobs that I've worked, I truly couldn't understand what my managers do. They have a team of people working under them that are doing all the work, right? So what do they do? Make PowerPoints, schedule meetings with other managers or their bosses to report on those results or discuss initiatives. But 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year of this? No way. Absolutely no way. I've also seen managers share their screen, and they have like 12,000 emails in their inbox that are unread. They must be simply leaving them in their inbox and not marking anything as red to make it look like they are so overwhelmed, or they have so much going on. That must be part of the scam that they are running. Because if they have so many people working under them, doing literally everything for them and…
