I joined my current company earlier this year and have been performing above expectations. I made the personal decision to move to another city in my state and discussed this with my boss 2 months ago to know what my options were — if I’d need to find a new job, if they’d let me stay with my current office, if I’d have to transfer to another office, etc.
During this discussion, my boss told me she’d “make it work any way possible!” multiple times and just to keep her in the loop so she could work w/ corporate to iron out the final details. She did flag to me there may be a salary decrease if I have to transfer to a new office, but couldn’t tell me what that decrease was going to be at the time.
Fast forward to December, I got close to signing the lease at my new place so I let my boss + team know I was following through w/ the move. My boss shifted in high gear to get everything worked out w/ corporate & she and I had my EOY discussion last Wednesday where I was offered a 19% raise based on my performance w/ the company so far (she has all of the info re: my move at this point). Then, Monday she sets up a last minute meeting correcting my raise & reducing it to 9% instead and said it’s because corporate is only willing to pay me the highest pay scale for my new city.
I guess I’m frustrated because I’m moving from one high COL area to another high COL area, absolutely nothing will change with my workload & I feel like this was a discussion that should have taken place during my EOY Review instead of correcting it days later.
