So a little backstory. I work at a sprinkler tech type of place, I hate the job, I answer calls and have to send all of the rude ass technicians to jobs. I've been looking for a new job for about a month, but a couple of weeks ago my boss told me I was doing great and that he was going to give me a little raise. I rejoiced and figured that I might stick with the company for a bit and went on with my life. Only to discover that he didn't have permission to do that. So no raise, obviously I was pissed and continued to look for a new job.
Fastforward to last week, I tripped over my husband's slippers and broke one of my fingers on our bedframe. I went to the doctors and got some papers that I was told to give to my boss, which I wasn't really sure what for. He gives my papers to hr and now I apparently have to take off work until my doctors says I can come back. Not only is hr making me stay home, but they're taking the time I'm off out of my PTO. I started working there in November of 2022, so I didn't have much PTO to start with. I'm being forced to take so much time off that I OWE money and I'm not allowed to quit because of it. I was planning on taking a vacation in December with my family which is now impossible.
Is there anything I can do? There's no way this is legal. There's gotta be something I can do right? How can you force someone to use PTO like that? HELP
LONG STORY SHORT:
I broke my finger and my job won't let me come back til my doctor okays it. The time I'm missing comes out of PTO and my paycheck.
