I got let go due to my family situation getting worse

I stupidly accepted a contract position last fall/early winter for a year. I knew I was taking a risk, but the pay seemed worth it. The decline started when my manager was fired on the spot. No notice, nothing. This manager was the best boss I had EVER previously had in any position. I wish you all had a chance to be under someone like him. Then slowly, they started cutting people that were on contracts like myself. I was performing well at the time, so « fortunately » I wasn’t cut. Then slowly, they started cutting people that were on contracts like myself. I was performing well at the time, so « fortunately » I wasn’t cut. Around same time I had an offer for a position that paid lower (but was still reasonable) and I declined it, relying on this contract that was until the end of this year.

With a very unfortunate turn or events, my father passed away around the same time that my husband was diagnosed with a very serious illness. One that bounds us to hospitals for prolonged chunks of time. I had connected with my manager, letting them know that I might need some lenience and flexibility (I wasn’t entitled to time off due to my contact stipulation). At this time, I was the second most overloaded person on my team out of over 40+ people.

My new boss had expressed « understanding » and « compassion » during our conversation, but two days later fired me due to supposedly insufficient workload…. I was litterally so busy some days I worked til 9PM to catch up on things.

I am so mad at everything. Life has presented me with very hard challenges, and this company showed me they aren’t worth shit when it comes to human life.
