This is mostly a vent post, i’ve been working as a cashier at my local grocery store. it’s not terrible, it’s unionized (most grocery stores across america are btw) and my boss isn’t terrible either, but i live in an area with lots and lots of old retired people.
Yesterday we were super busy, and we only had 2 baggers for the 5 open lanes. This old guy comes through my lane with like 15 2 liters and a whole bunch of other stuff. i get him rung up, he pays, but both my baggers are busy so i start bagging. usually for big orders, people help bag their own order, especially when there’s a super long line behind them, but not this guy. No he stands there watching me bag all his shit. I ask if he wants his 2 liters bagged, and he tells me he wants them individually double bagged. Then he says, as i am going as fast as possible, “what, can’t you get some help?”
I tell him that both baggers are busy, and that i’m working as fast as i can, and he says “oh you must be understaffed. you know, these young people just don’t want to work anymore”. i’m literally 20 years old.
i fucking hate it here.
