I live in Missouri, but up until recently worked in Illinois. A few weeks ago, the company I worked for chose to eliminate my position due to a lack of work. I have quite a few applications out, but tried to file for unemployment in the meantime.
When I tried to file through the Missouri labor office, I was given 2 different types of claims I could make. There was no information available about the difference between the 2, so I went with the first one. The website then informed me that I couldn’t do that through the Missouri site and gave me a link to the Illinois office. So I tried filing through the Illinois site and was informed that I couldn’t file on their site because I didn’t live there. Both sites gave me a phone number for an automated bot that just kept sending me around in circles.
I still didn’t know what the difference was between the 2 options I was given, so I went back to the Missouri site and tried the second option. That option asked me to verify my previous employers and then said my claim had been submitted, so I thought it was taken care of.
Today I received a notice to appear because I’m apparently now under investigation by the state. I’ve lived in this shit hole my whole life, worked full time since I was 12, and still haven’t received my tax return from the past 3 years, and now they pull this bullshit. Fuck Missouri.
Edit: I forgot to add that a previous employer owes me for several grand in unpaid OT, and the state labor board just told me to find a new job when I reported that and the repeated requests to work off the clock. When I lost said shitty job at the start of the pandemic, HR fought the resulting UI claim. Apparently “do this impossible thing or turn in your key” isn’t the same as firing someone. The state took over a year to schedule the hearing when I disputed it, and then didn’t notify me until a week after the hearing had taken place. I lost obviously, despite having a literal shoe box stuffed full of documentation against the company.
