I have worked in high tech for over 30 years and we are desperate for workers. Why are todays generation not interested in stem ? Most of our hires are from other countries
My future son in law worked hard at school in stem got his degree and job where there is an extremely high need for those skills. He did not ask for anything , was willing to take the going wage, and they gave home over 100k.
Starting for college higher is over 100k , if you are really good you can make 200k to 500k and hours worked is not crazy if you are good since you are judged on results vs time put in. So there is a lot of stress to be excellent but you have a lot of options and it’s yours to run with it.
I am really disappointed our kids in the US are not focused on stem, we need them so badly to the point we hire a lot of h1b visas to fill the gap.
My suggestion is focus on jobs where the need is so great they will pay well and provide the other items we all want like WLB.
Example my wife’s friend’s daughter spent a lot of money on a major where the need was extremely low and she is mad because there are few jobs in that field and they pay low. When her mom mentioned stem to her when she was in school, she responded with it was boring and for nerds.
