Whether society collapses and we start farming to live, most of us will have to work. I hope you are all able to find work that is comfortable and enjoyable for you. I know it's hard. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I could avoid it too, but no such luck.
When I came across this subreddit I was frustrated at first, because in my mind all the hard work all the people have done before us has gotten us to such a great place. We are all very fortunate for that, and being antiwork seemed to me to be disrespecting all the good that came out of people's willingness to work hard for the greater good. We have many great inventions and things we take for granted that had a grueling path of hard work to overcome before we could enjoy them, like supermarkets and vehicles.
But now I'm just kinda sad for all of you who are struggling, because it's clear there are disadvantages for many people that are debilitating and extremely hard to overcome. The low wages maintained by our country are driving animosity towards our societal expectations of working. How in the hell can I work anywhere for 40 hours a week and not be able to afford my life? It is a fair question and we should be open to it.
So as someone who initially thought this thread was basically just job security for me, and lazy people justifying other lazy people's laziness, I have opened my mind to the possibility that opportunity and ability are too big of a factor to determine health, wealth and wellness.
I hope you can all find the motivation to overcome those obstacles, as unfair as they may be, so that you can find your middle ground – your happy medium.
