I'm just seeking advice on how to move forward and what to make of this.
I've been working at a relatively new edtech company for a year and a half. I was called into HR this afternoon to speak with the HR director and fired, to me very much out of the blue.
β
The HR director told me that I make “too much noise” and gave me two examples: 1. I once pushed back against a request for 3 days of vacation denied that I had requested months in advance because my parents are traveling across the world to visit me in a few months and 2. because I sent an email to HR on behalf of my department (of 6 people) because we didn't understand the results of our performance evaluations.
The HR director told me that I am “too organized” for the company and it was no longer a good fit.
She also told me that she was extremely sorry to see me go and that I have excellent qualities and will go very far. She also gave me her personal phone number before I left and said that she would be happy to make a recommendation for me.
I am obviously hurt and worried about the future, but I am just trying to make sense of this. It truly sounded like she was against the decision but just following orders.
Is this common protocol when someone gets fired? How can I rationalize what just happened?
