I just got let go this morning via email.

The start-up I have worked at for the past 3 years just purchased a competitor last week, and this morning I went to log on for work (I WFH), and I couldn't log on to anything. Confused, I sent my boss a text, and at the same time, I received an email saying “This email is to inform you that your position has been selected as part of the reduction in force that was announced at 8 AM this morning by our CEO, via email. Your last day with ***** will be today.” So what about the people from the company we acquired, you ask? Did they get let go, too? Well, it turns out the employees of the acquired company are in the Dominican Republic, (except for the technicians who do the work here in the US), and they still have jobs. Now I'm doubly fucked because I have marijuana in my system, and I'm in an illegal state where they test you.

So this is just a reminder that you mean absolutely nothing to any company, whether they are your employer or not. You mean nothing to them. 3 years of work in a start-up, let go with zero warning.
