I just hard-core countered a job in a high COLA area

So i'm changing careers, and I'm looking for experience in interviewing for my new career…whats the best way to get experience? To do it I found a job that paid $38k a year in a high COLA area…think like NYC, LA, expensive. Quite frankly I found this job posting insulting considering in lower COLA areas I am seeing $45k-$48k. So anyway I did two rounds of interview, I did really well. They offered me the position at the top of the range…38k. I countered them $95k. They thought I was joking. I then countered with a job add in a city that costs way less then them and basically said “You want me to do this work, this job pays X, and the COLA is way less…so my number is $95k” They said theres no way they would ever give me $95k. And I said that's fine, thanked them for…

To do it

I found a job that paid $38k a year in a high COLA area…think like NYC, LA, expensive. Quite frankly I found this job posting insulting considering in lower COLA areas I am seeing $45k-$48k.

So anyway I did two rounds of interview, I did really well. They offered me the position at the top of the range…38k.

I countered them $95k.

They thought I was joking. I then countered with a job add in a city that costs way less then them and basically said “You want me to do this work, this job pays X, and the COLA is way less…so my number is $95k”

They said theres no way they would ever give me $95k. And I said that's fine, thanked them for their time.

And yea.

FYI unless they where going come close to $80k there was no way I was going consider the job seriously. I knew they weren't going do that, so I did it for experience…and figured when they made the offer I might as well aim for the stars.
