I'm actually so full of adrenaline and i'm entirely unsure if i made the right move or not. Idk if i overreacted or what.
So, today I had an interview set at 8:15am. It lasted a total of 15 minutes.
The interview was for a position as a production artist, I know, sounds lame for a dream job, but i get the satisfaction from going to a Target and seeing the products i've made with the company logo on the back. It's just a weird bragging thing to me that makes me feel good.
Well, anyways, we sat down and had our little talk about expectations and my previous experience. He said he had a meeting scheduled for 9 so we had to wrap things up kind of quickly. He asked what I was looking for in regards to pay, I told him what I was making now at my current employer then told him “honestly, I'm just looking to make a livable wage. Do you have a specific amount in mind?” and he just…. looked at me and laughed. Then said “Haha, aren't we all?” and to me that just became an immediate red flag. I thanked him for his time and told him I needed to leave, he seemed shocked and surprised then got quiet and said “okay” and walked me to the front. I shook his hand, thanked him for his time and left.
Did i over react? I feel like it's a HUGE problem if an employer laughs at someone for asking for a livable wage. Maybe he thought I was joking? Either way, bad vibes.
