I’m at an undue-hardship job (leaving this month as long as I find a job, hallelujah) which means that they don’t need to give us breaks. Frankly I can’t understand the legal jargon of Oregon work laws (I barely graduated I’m sorry) but I think they ran with it a little too hard by not even giving us a break space. There’s a sink, a mini fridge, and a microwave in the stockroom and that’s all. There isn’t even a can opener. (Which I keep forgetting about, which is why I have multiple cans of chili and soup in the employee cabinet).
So I brought in a tiny coffee maker that so far only I’ve used, and a past employee left a plug-in hot water kettle. This place SUCKS and knowing another worker bee will fill my place when I leave with such terrible options kills me. I know my boss should be the one buying a toaster or whatever, but she sincerely never will, and this asshole business is gonna stay open.
Like if I have an extra appliance I’m not using, would I be dumb to leave it at this workplace? I’ve never worked somewhere that didn’t have at least a toaster oven before here, and it’s asinine that they make people work 8 hour shifts with no breaks and no time to leave the store with JUST a microwave. I don’t want to alleviate my boss’s responsibilities, but I hate the idea of my replacement having s bad deal.
