I'm an indian, been working for few years in few MNCs, this perticular company is a US unicorn giant.
I work my ass off the entire year, i was forced to take on unpaid overtime , i regularly worked till 1-3am just to meet the deadline. Went out my way to help the team in projects that had nothing to do with me.
A month ago i got my appraisal, my manager was all praise on my productivity but said the higher ups gave a bad hike due to budget issues ,
I now basically make 20$ more after working my assoff for a year, i get a 20$ hike. I worked so hard and late my manager assigned US interns to shadow me and learn.
Over the last month we got friendly with eachother, one of them revealed his monthly salary, i went into a depression last week , the idea that a intern who barely knows how to use ms Excel is getting paid more than a team Lead by 15x just couldn't sit well with me .
I get the exchange rate is bad but these companies treat us like shit even in Indian standards , my maid's son has a cab he makes as much as me .
Tech firms artificially pay us peanuts to keep our expectations low, I'm a fuking team lead, i have 2 master's and spend most of my what's left of my free time on coding to not loose my edge. Yet I'm being paid the same as a American intern, i earn as much as a private cab driver.
I'm taking a long vecation soon , I'm done with software bullshit, probably go freelancing for small firms .
