I make an excuse *at least* once a week to wfh.

During the pandemic, I did my job 100% remotely for over two years. Last year, our company decided that they were tired of letting our giant office building sit vacant, so they forced us all to come back in 4 days a week. It was bullshit and a lot of people left. I stayed because I love my boss (none of this is her fault and she fought for us to remain remote). I also love the work I create at my job. The main problem is- being in the office sucks. The main problem is- being in the office sucks. Since we’ve been back, here are just a few of the issues we’ve dealt with-
– violence in the workplace (true story)
– Crime in our parking lots (car jacking, shootings, robbery)
– Constant spread of Illness and COVID
– Constant construction forcing us to park in unsafe areas and walk double the distance into the office

I could go on, but those are the main grievances. I’m also autistic and the sensory overload is unbearable but my HR is awful and doesn’t care.

Due to this, I have been finding it almost impossible to make it in all 4 days so I have been coming up with excuses at least once a week to work from home. I used to feel bad, but I just don’t anymore. I had an amazing performance review, and I give 110% at my job. Why do I have to do that in an office building that’s not only unsafe, but uncomfortable as well? If anything I do less work when I’m in the office.

I know a lot of us probably have these complaints, but I was wondering if anyone else finds themselves making constant excuses to work from home after being forced back into the office? Do you feel bad about it? Are you worried about it affecting your job security?

TLDR- Was forced to go back into the office 4 days a week after two years remote. I don’t mind going in like 2 days a week, but I’m struggling with 4 and keep coming up with excuses every week to wfh at least one extra day. Anyone else? Should I feel bad?
