I need some help

I work in California as a field coordinator. I go to different schools in the same district to take care of all the school gardens. I have been asking for extra hours for the last two months. I went on vacation for two weeks and when I came back my boss said she got me more hours. The hours on one day were from 6:30am to 4:30pm which was fine with me cause I really wanted more hours. In the morning of the day I'm supposed to work this shift I text my boss about how overtime works for us. She responded that we do not get overtime for one day and that's only for a union. Then when I got to work she goes off on my for 5 to 10 minutes. She said that I'm trying to squeeze juice out of two stones and since I'm probably broke…

She said that I'm trying to squeeze juice out of two stones and since I'm probably broke from vacation this is why I'm doing this. She also said that I was ungrateful for getting more hours and that she works 12 hours everyday no overtime. I just didn't say anything and immediately went to cry in the bathroom. I was really upset because I'm practically my bosses bitch, I don't even take a 30 minutes lunch so for her to say that I'm ungrateful was a shock. The rest of the day she pretend like nothing happend and was super sweet to me. I need some help figuring out if I'm in the wrong. I'm pretty sure if you don't provide overtime you can't have your workers working more than 8 hours a day. I'm really pissed off just by her attitude and response because I was genuinely curious on how our system worked. So if someone could help me out to figure out my rights I would appreciate that a lot.
