What the title says. We’re getting rid of our old walk in freezer and replacing it with a new one, and that includes getting rid of the ice. He decided to do this during work hours with propane. It created such a horrible smell that we couldn’t figure out what it was initially until I asked my boss himself what it was.
It gets better. My coworker kept trying to open a door in the backroom to let some air in but someone kept closing it, there was no fans going, only one window upstairs open, and my boss wasn’t even wearing a mask. It got to a point where we all got sick one way or another: I was dizzy and nauseous for hours, my coworker almost had to go home and the cashier got a huge headache. Even after my boss had opened a door it was still a pretty strong smell in the backroom, but also faint in the rest of the store.
I don’t know what about this incident in particular made me report them, but it did. I got a response quickly, and this morning I got a call that they’d be sending them paperwork related to getting proper measurements, etc. I don’t go back to work until Friday, and it’s just scary to be honest. I hope I did the right thing, and that no one gets in trouble- I’m just tired of them constantly getting away with treating us like shit, and doing dangerous things
