I see both sides of the workforce every day – and it’s infuriating

For context, I work as a janitor for a medium to large sized company that's highly regarded as one of the best places to work in its industry. A few thousand employees in one place, so I always have a lot of ground to cover. Every single day, I start cleaning in the admin office. I see mostly people ages 30-50 years old, sitting on their asses talking nonstop, sending emails to each other, scheduling appointments, taking a few phone calls here and there, etc. Mostly bullshit clerical office work. These people make 60-100k+ a year, for doing little to nothing. They had a note on their whiteboard in the main area that read “Have a meeting to come up with ideas to have more meetings”. Hour lunches, immediate PTO, etc etc. Then, I walk to the distribution center and begin there. I see people busting their asses, sweating, swearing,…

Hour lunches, immediate PTO, etc etc.

Then, I walk to the distribution center and begin there. I see people busting their asses, sweating, swearing, bleeding, getting talked down to by their superiors. I see 15-30 min breaks, constant supervision, and nonstop work for the entire 8 hours they are there. Their ages range from 18-65. They make a whopping $16/hour, and the occasional raise every couple years.

What the fuck is up with that? Is this what modern corporations have turned into? I understand the difference between entry level and mid to upper level jobs, but the disparity of pay, benefits, and overall QOL is astounding to me and it infuriates me every day. How did we get to this point.
