So I work a $12/hr summer job in a relatively low COL area (think $500/mo for rent for one person) and I used to pick up shifts whenever they were available, simply because I need to work ~45 hours a month simply to pay rent alone and afford nothing else.
Anyway, I feel the exact specifics of what I make are largely irrelevant, but how is it fair that I get only ONE SHIFT A WEEK assigned to me? 10 hours of work per pay period is not even enough to pay rent, and they always schedule unreliable people to work. As such, I get calls from my two managers at 6-7am on days where I am not scheduled asking me to come in to cover for someone. This is absolutely ridiculous.
I will be looking for another job and refusing to pick up a single shift until they can understand that people who pick up shifts genuinely need the money and should NOT be punished for doing so. Working one shift a week would only cover HALF my rent for the month, implying I spend NOTHING on groceries, etc. Wake the fuck up. Can't believe managers can be this stupid with scheduling.
Edit: My only shift this week is on the Fourth of July, 2-8pm. Well played.
