It finally happened, after avoiding this in my career for nearly a decade, the company I work for laid off a bunch of people. My boss and 25% of my team were let go, as well as 15% of the company at large.
I feel shellshocked. The powers that be said to just keep going on like nothing happened! Fuckers, a QUARTER OF MY COWORKERS JUST FUCKING VANISHED, I CAN'T JUST PRETEND THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. A newly wed just back from their honeymoon, a parent with an 8 month old baby, a veteran of 5 years. All let go with no more than a quick 15 minute meeting, and the execs tell us that still have a job “we did this in the most people-focused way we could.”
This company has made a profit and grown every single quarter since 2010. It has grown its market cap 8X in 20 years. And the first quarter of loss they experience, they immediately lay off a significant portion of their staff. pathetic
I had actually drafted a resignation letter last week that I was going to turn in after the new year, but now the person who I would send it has been sacked, and the person they would send it to has also been sacked. Now, well I am not sure exactly who I need to tell I am resigning. Honestly they should have asked who wanted to take the severance package, because I would have snapped at that opportunity
