My career is in food safety and I started at a new place 7 months ago. I work in the lab and handle food safety and quality assurance for a food producer. I am overqualified for what I currently do and run circles around most my coworkers. I also have more experience and credentials than my coworkers. When I got hired I wad sold a big story about how there is always promotion and room for advancement. I only took the job because they offered me a good wage. I have been putting in extra effort since I got hired to learn as much as I can and fill in/ help out whenever needed. The lead position opened up internally this past Friday and I applied promptly. It has now been almost a week and I have not heard a peep from my manager about this. I know she had talked to others in the lab about the job (they told me) and I know that nobody but me wants the job. I was starting to feel ignored, but had been helping out on third shift because we are short a person and figured maybe she just wanted to see me in person? (Although I am only a email or text away) Anyway, the job was posted publicly today and now I feel pissed off. Clearly they don’t want to promote me and want to be passive aggressive about it too. Am I reading too much into this or should I start to look for a new job?
